Stratford Garden Centre
Customer Profile
Stratford Garden Centre is the second centre that adds to the original garden centre at Whitacre near Coleshill which was built up by Helen and Gwyn Lloyd. The Stratford site was the relaunch of a run down nursery, and the majority of the product range is classic garden centre plants, trees, and shrubs. The shopping experience is more like a department store, selling clothing and aquatics by franchises. The indoor farm shop is a nice addition, selling meat and cheese on a weighed basis , but also a full range of local and organic products.
Business Solution
Although the products are offered at refrigerated counters they do not need to have integrated scales as the customers need to be able to visit other departments too before paying tills. The solution was the use of Avery weigh scales that produce a barcode label at the time which can Scanned by the open retail tills identifying both product and the price of this sale.
System Benefits
This means we do not need to have scales for each of our main tills, and customers that want to by from the farm shop can pay at the till there. We don’t have a different system for our farm shop, it is treated just as another department within the store. The touch tills are also suitable for the sales environment as they allow a lot of items can be loaded as touch button choices avoiding the need for till books.
Quote
“We already used Open Retail at our Whitacre centre but we needed the system to incorporate new ideas for the launch of the new Stratford centre and especially the farm shop style food and lifestyle department. This was done off the same till equipment but managed to show the sales separately and combined in the company sales, so that we could see the development of these new ranges for us.”
