Otter Garden Centres

Otter Garden Centres is an established family-run garden centre business celebrating the very best of gardening, home and leisure. Our first garden centre was founded in Ottery St Mary in the early 1960s, when Malcolm and Marilyn White began growing vegetables and plants to sell in East Devon markets, whilst living on site in a tiny caravan. We’ve come a long way since then. All our centres reflect our enduring enthusiasm for plants and gardening. The group is centrally managed and distributes stock to the stores. Promotions are used as a main sales tool and as such Otter Garden Centres is a member of the Tillington buying group. As well as being strong in plants and furniture most sites have a food service with restaurant .

The Need for Change

Due to the number of warehousing locations the use of wifi handsets were introduced to enable more flexible working practices on stock control without always having to be back in the office

How Multi Retail helped us


The multi Retail software has been flexible enough to deal with all the changes over the last 25 years. This includes handling all the meal service in a large restaurant , and a full multi branch transfer system. They have developed specific features where we wanted to work in a specific way or to maintain our trading edge.


Changing epos supplier is a high cost option, we have all the benefits of continuity from a supportive supplier and the savings of not changing all the time. The data and proceedures we operate have tightened up and improved so we can totally rely on the figures.


We work closely with Open Retail on improvements to our systems. As they write their own software they are able to respond to our requirements and ensure it works for us. We have a strong working relationship with the team at Open Retail and apart from being an easy system to use , we get the ongoing support needed in dealing with all the situations that occur across the sites”.
